Uruguay's food traditions are a blend of food from Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Germany and Scotland. They use both cattle, chicken and fish.
The national dish is Chivito, which is a sandwich with sliced beef, mozzarella, cured ham, tomatoes, mayonnaise and olives. They are often served with bacon and fried or hard-boiled eggs and preferably with french fries.
Other well-known dishes are pasta, pizza, schnitzel and empanadas.
