France's national day, La Fête Nationale, also known as Bastille Day, is celebrated on July 14. This date in 1789 is considered the start of the French Revolution, with the storming of the Bastille. Wreaths are laid at war memorials and the oldest and largest annual military parade in Europe takes place on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The President and several high-ranking French and foreign guests are present. The fireworks in Paris are something in itself, and two of the best viewing spots are at the Eiffel Tower and on the Champs de Mars.
Why not celebrate the day together with France's national day, by making a delicious French speciality, such as cheese soufflé, boeuf bourginon or French macaroons.
