I remember the whale steak from childhood. It was tough as a shoe sole and tasted like cod liver oil. I do not know what has changed, but the one we buy in the store nowadays, reminds neither shoe shoe, nor cod liver oil. On the other hand, it is absolutely beautiful ????
Season the steaks with salt and pepper and fry them for 3 min. on each side.
Onions and mushroom sauce
2 løk, finhakket
2 pk sopp i skiver
3 ss smør
2 ss mel
1/2 ltr melk
1 ss tyttebær
2 ss oksefond
Brown onions and mushrooms in butter. Add flour and dilute with milk while stirring. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for a few minutes. Pick out the bay leaves before serving.
Serve the whale steak with e.g. cauliflower and mashed potatoes. You can find the recipe for a perfect one here .
