5 medium onions
5 teaspoons olive oil
5 teaspoons butter
1 teaspoon brown sugar (if you want the onion to finish faster)
Balsamicoeddik
Cut the onion into slices. Heat olive oil and butter in a thick-bottomed sauté pan. Add the onion slices and stir it together with the fat. Spread the onion evenly over the pan and let it boil, stirring occasionally.
When it starts to get color, the heat is reduced to medium low so that the onion does not burn or dry out.
Sprinkle a little salt over the onion after 10 minutes, and if you want, you can add a little sugar to help with the caramelization process. A trick to prevent the onion from drying out while it is boiling is to add a little water.
Let the onion cook for 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally. When the onion starts to stick to the pan, let it turn a little brown.
Season with a little balsamic vinegar towards the end of the cooking time
