The Netherlands

The Netherlands' food traditions have been characterized by the fact that the food should be cheap and filling. Breakfast and lunch are usually bread with toppings such as cheese. Dinner is often meat, potatoes and vegetables that are in season, there and then. The Dutch also eat a lot of dairy products. Normally, the food has been sober, but parties and holidays are celebrated with special food.

Famous Dutch dishes are poffertjes, which are small pancakes, matjes herring, pea soup, apple cake and bitterballen, which are deep-fried meatballs.

In addition, a lot of Indonesian food is served, as a result of which Indonesia has been a Dutch colony.
