Vanilla sauce tastes good as an accompaniment to many different things, e.g. chocolate pudding, jelly and apple cake. Homemade custard tastes best and it is not that difficult to make.
4 egg yolks
2 dl milk
2 dl cream
50 g sugar
1/2 vanilla bean
Divide the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds. Boil milk, sugar vanilla bean and seeds from the vanilla bean, so the sugar dissolves. If you cook slowly, you get the most vanilla flavor.
Divide the eggs so you get the egg yolks in a bowl. Carefully pour the milk and cream mixture over the egg yolks while whisking vigorously. Pour the mixture back into the pan and heat gently while stirring. It must not boil this time. Fish out the vanilla bean and set to cool.
If you want to make vanilla cream, you can mix the sauce (when it has become cold) with whipped cream from 1/3 l of cream.
