French toast

Poor knights can be used for breakfast, lunch, snack, an evening meal or dessert, with ice cream. It is a great way to use up dry bread or loaf.

4 egg

4 dl milk

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon cardamom

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 ts salt

8 slices of bread or loaf

6 tablespoons butter for frying

Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom and salt. Cut bread or loaf into slices. Place the slices in a dish with some edges, pour on the egg mixture and let it soak into the slices.

Melt butter in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the slices on both sides until they get a nice color. Serve with jam, maple syrup or as I have done here, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
