Army knights can be used for breakfast, lunch, snack, a cuddle dish in the evening or dessert, with ice cream added. It's a great way to use up dry bread or white bread.
4 dl milk
1 ts salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cardamom
1 teaspoon cinnamon
8 slices of bread or loaf
6 tablespoons butter for frying
Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom and salt. Cut bread or loaf into slices. Place the slices in a dish with some edges, pour on the egg mixture and let it soak into the slices.
Melt butter in the frying pan over medium heat and fry the slices on both sides until they get nice color. Serve army knights with jam, maple syrup or as I have done here, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
