The national dish of Ukraine is Borshch. Varenyky and holubtsi are also national favorites and common to eat in traditional Ukrainian restaurants.
Ukraine has the nickname "Europe's breadbasket", and that probably says something about how important cereal products are to them. Most Ukrainian dishes are old peasant food and based on grains, potatoes, cabbage, mushrooms and beets.
